Donald Patrick Connelly, Sr.
April 14, 1924 - June 24, 2013
Don Connelly excelled at living. As a husband, father, companion, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend he was an icon of living. He left this life in the same way he lived it. His final adventures included, but were not limited to, recent snowball fights on glaciers, travel plans for Costa Rica, sleepovers with his children, and heartfelt conversations with friends and family. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1924 his noteworthy accomplishments are far too many to list. It is however those life adventures, in between then and now where he consistently surpassed any personal and professional expectations. He and his wife Mary Eileen celebrated a loving, lasting, generous marriage of almost sixty years. He believed she was his moral compass, and together, they developed, and maintained, lifelong friendships. Those bonds defined his heart. As a father, his devotion to his family was paramount. His memorable military service in WWII served as an ongoing source of pride for him. This service included the First Army, 2nd Battalion, 271st Infantry Regiment, and the Fighting 69th Infantry Division. Professionally he earned, and enjoyed a deeply respected reputation, and highly regarded position within the healthcare industry. His charming and enlightening exchanges will be remembered. The legacy of his love will continue to live on in the lives of so many, especially through his children, Colleen Braswell, Donald P. Connelly Jr. (Tess), Meagan Azevedo (Steve), Maureen Connelly-Maloney (Tom) and his cherished companion, Jan Bradel; his grandchildren, Brenden, Caitlin, Cameron, Carina, David, Holly, Kyle, Michelle, PJ, Samantha, Stephanie, Tom, and Whitney; his great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexandria, Allison, Angelo, Avery, BJ, Brandt, Francis, Lane, Mason, and Randy. He will be profoundly missed, yet the love we share with him will prevail. On Friday, July 12, 2013, a visitation will be held from 5:30 pm - 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd.
