Fred F. Emich Jr.
With his bride of 61 years by his side, Fred F. Emich, Jr. died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the age of 85. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Ann (nee Ganey) Emich, five beloved children, Fred F. III (Carol) of Littleton, CO and Scottsdale, AZ, Daniel T. (Mary Jane) of Arvada, CO, Ann Emich Black of Dillon, CO, Mary E. and Thomas G. (Jeri) of Tucson, AZ; and 11 grandchildren. Fred born and raised in Chicago, IL, brought up his family for 28 years in Joliet, IL and since 1984, called Tucson home. He owned several car dealerships including: Nash and Chrysler-Plymouth agencies in the Chicagoland area, Fred Emich Ford in Joliet, Oldsmobile dealerships in Denver and Tucson. He retired from Emich Subaru (Tucson) a mere two years ago (January 2, 2010). Fred served on various boards; notably the Diocese of Tucson's Catholic Foundation, Joliet Federal Savings & Loan, Joliet Country Club plus as the past president of the Illinois Automotive Trade Assn. past chairman of Chicago Area Ford Dealer Council and Ford Dealers Advertising Fund. As a labor negotiator he earned the moniker, "Friendly Fred, the Working Man's Friend." Fred attended Northwestern University, served in the Navy during WWII and graduated from the University of Arizona. He was an avid Wildcat, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed hunting (with his sons and loyal labs), golf and playing euchre/gin, dedicating himself to playing cards with shut-ins for many years. He was a member of the Tucson Country Club, Mountain Oyster Club, Elks and a past member of Rotary, the 49ers (Tucson) and Joliet Country Clubs. Remains resting at Adair Funeral Home-Dodge Chapel: 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. Tucson. Wake Tuesday, February 14, 2012 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Dodge Chapel.
