James Allen (Al) McGarry "Papa"

82, died July 15, 2013 in Tucson, AZ, where he has lived with his family since 1960, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He was born in Holyoke, MA in 1930 to James Allen McGarry and Frances Geraldine Kelly. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, and subsequently worked as a sales representative for New England Telephone & Telegraph in Springfield, MA. In 1960 he and his family moved to Tucson, where he worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. as a sales manager. He retired in 1983 and became a sales manager for Vision Homes, where he worked for ten years. During his later years he wrote a novel entitled "The Monument", which he felt, next to his beautiful family, was his greatest achievement. He was an incredible husband and father, an author, an artist, a musician and had an unbeatable sense of humor. Al had an incredible intellect and a great thirst for knowledge. He was a gentle, loving, honorable man who would come to the aid of others under any circumstances. He was predeceased by his brother, Neil McGarry and is survived by his brother, Francis McGarry of So. Yarmouth, MA and many nieces and nephews. He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan; his children, Ann Jones (Mike), Eileen McGarry (Phil Carter), Neil McGarry (Bennie); three grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Mathew Jones and James Carter. Al will be deeply missed. A Celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by VISTOSO FUNERAL HOME.
