82, of Chicago, IL and Tucson, AZ. Born to Emma Brotman Spiesman Feldman, brother of the late Renee Spiesman Jans Dimond, and half brother of Tony Spiesman (Patricia). Devoted and loving husband to Harriet (nee Hartstein), extraordinary father to Nancy (William Jackson) and Audrey (Kevin McNamara), adoring grandfather to Caitlin and Meara McNamara, and fond companion to Stephanie Petrie. Jim's career was in the fragrance and flavor chemical industry with General Aromatic Products, Stepan Chemical, and Robertet Fragrances, Inc. Upon his retirement from the chemical industry, Jim worked with Meritage Homes in Tucson, AZ. Jim had a lifelong commitment to community service. He spent many years volunteering with U.S. Boys Clubs of Chicago, Chicago Botanical Gardens, and Habitat for Humanity in Tucson. He contributed generously to Doctors without Borders and Maryland Therapeutic Riding. He was deeply compassionate and generous of spirit. Where he saw need, he provided care and support. Jim was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the outdoors. He was an accomplished horseman, tennis player, jogger, skier, swimmer, and hiker. His love of gardening was a lifelong passion and he created beautiful landscapes in every home where he lived. Everyone who knew Jim, friend, colleague, or casual acquaintance, always remarked they knew what a special guy he was. He had a rapier sense of humor, and genuinely liked people. He will dwell in his beloved Sabino Canyon in Tucson. A reception celebrating his life will be held in late summer at the Chicago Botanical Garden. Donations in his memory can be made to Doctors Without Borders.
