Kathryn Truesdale

departed this life on February 25, 2014 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by members of her family. She was born Olive Kathryn Oliver on September 17, 1921 to Earl and Nellie (Gibson) Oliver of Alexandria, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, a sister, her husband, Col. Marion G. Truesdale, USMC Ret. and her oldest daughter, J. Susanne Stone. She grew up in Indiana where she was an accomplished musician on the piano and trombone. She attended Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis) where she met her future husband. They married on June 1, 1941 and resided in Huntington, IN, where Marion taught high school history. He joined the Marines when his teaching contract ended in 1942 and they lived in numerous locations from coast to coast during their 58 years of marriage. During an assignment to San Diego, she served as secretary at Point Loma United Methodist Church. Her experience there led her to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree at United States International University, College of Arts and Sciences, California Eastern Campus on June 6, 1971. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology in California. She served as Assistant Pastor at University Christian Church in San Diego in the mid-1970's. Kathryn is survived by four children, Jeanne (and Jerry) Myers and John H. Truesdale of Tucson, Marion "Rusty" (and Kathy) Truesdale of Kissimmee, FL, and Julie K. Zerbe of Blacksburg, VA; nine grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. She lived at Fellowship Square where she enjoyed monthly opera performances. Kathryn was an enthusiastic supporter of the Tucson Symphony and attended The Damnation of Faust on February 16th. She enjoyed the fellowship and friends at Desert Skies United Methodist Church where a Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014.
