MCKITIS, George, of Tucson, AZ, 86, died September 4, 2013. He was a retired social worker who worked for the Department of Child Welfare for the State of Connecticut and was the regional director for Catholic Charities/Catholic Family Services in northwest Connecticut for almost 30 years. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Lucille Garrison. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, and five children, including Michael (Joan) of Oro Valley and two stepchildren. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. George moved to Tucson in 1992 and immediately entered the docent program at Tohono Chul Park. His love of the desert and its inhabitants gave him great pleasure. He and Mary Jane also enjoyed many hours rock hounding in southern Arizona. The family wants to express gratitude for the wonderful care he received from Casa de la Luz Hospice, especially Heather and David. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Tohono Chul Park, 7366 Paseo del Norte, Tucson, AZ 85704. There will be no services, but a celebration of his life will be held at his home on Sunday, October 6, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to DESERT SUNSET CREMATION, Catalina, 520-818-0038.
