Ona Lee Benton

born January 19, 1927 in Cleveland, Texas, passed away at 86, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her own home on Saturday, April 20, 2013. She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Wright and siblings, Dode, John, Billi, Lee Roy and Ollie whom all passed in Texas. She is survived by her son, Thomas B. Benton and her granddaughter, Royella Lee Amidan in Tucson, AZ. Ona came to Tucson from Texas 68 years ago and left a big footprint on the Tucson community. Working in many of the upscale nightclubs through the 40's, 50's and 60's, and even touring the country with her ex-husband playing the upright bass in his trio "the Tommy Benton Trio". Ona picked up golfing in the 60's and blasted the women and men alike right off the course! She was the first woman starter to work for Tucson Parks and Rec. and won many of the invitational club tournaments until the 80's when she retired to help raise her granddaughter. She had a heart of gold and truly would give the shirt of her back for someone. You will be missed Ona Lee.
