PENNINGTON, Charles "Charlie" Howard, 73, passed away in Tucson, AZ on Saturday, June 1, 2013 with his family at his bedside. He was born on July 15, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA to Howard and Pearl Pennington. Charlie grew up in Turkey Hill, PA. He graduated from Clearfield High School in Clearfield, PA in 1958. Shortly after high school, Charlie and his family relocated to Tucson, Arizona for his mom's health. A few short years later, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean Conflict from 1963-1965 and in the reserves for 1965-1969. Upon his return from military service, he began work at the Duval Copper Mines where he worked for over 43 years before retiring in 1999 to his homestead in Reserve, New Mexico. Charlie met the love of his life, Val, in the 1970s. In 1999 they were finally married in Reserve, NM. They were happily married for 14 years. Charlie was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, scouting and photographing wildlife, current events, watching football and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Pearl; his brothers, Albert, Robert and Fred; his sister, Anne and his son, Little Charlie. Charlie is survived by his spouse, Valerie; his sister, Emma (Jack); his brother, Harvey; his children, Anna (Shawn) Hughes, Sandra (Armando) Guerrero, Sherrie (Bill) Crowley, Stephanie and Kevin; and his 12 grandchildren-amongst numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service Monday, June 10, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN, 5401 S. Park Ave. Interment to follow. Flowers and condolences may be sent to South Lawn Cemetery.
