Sharlyn L. Stitzer

passed away on August the 2nd, 2013 at the age of 94. She was born to Forrest and Leeanna Prater in Marion, Virginia. A short time later the family moved to Webster City, Iowa when her father went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City and attended Marion College in Virginia. Sharlyn then moved to Chicago and went to work in the office of the IC Railroad where she met and married John Stitzer in 1938. They lived in numerous cities, following John's work, until they moved to Tucson in 1957, allowing Sharlyn to spend 56 years in the Southwest, an area she loved dearly. She was a member of Catalina Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, played the organ occasionally, and belonged to the women's organization, Circle. She played bridge with friends and belonged to several bridge clubs. Sharlyn loved to cook and bake, being well known for her pies. But aside from being a housewife, she was a loving mother on whom her children could always count to lend a helping hand. She is survived by her brother, Merle (Elsie) Prater; children, Linda (Robert) Lenhard, Janet Duberry and John David (Linda) Stitzer; grandchildren, Matthew Cole, Bob (April) Lenhard, Courtney (Marcus) Mindemann, Neil and Hannah Stitzer; great- grandchildren, Bobby and Brandon Lenhard. She was blessed to be greatly loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed. Services will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church at 2700 E. Speedway on Sunday, September 15, 2013, 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catalina United Methodist Church or the Community Food Bank. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.
