Shirley Raye Clingman Jones 6/18/1941 - 6/11/2014

Shirley Jones was a dedicated wife and mother. Shirley adored music, and family and friends loved hearing her play the piano. She was also a fantastic cook and taught all her grandchildren how to continue the great tradition of family favorites. Shirley combined her love of family and history by compiling family histories and creating amazing memory books for each of her seven grandchildren (as well as a book commemorating her 50th Hedrick High School Class Reunion). As a legacy to her three daughters, Shirley wrote a book for each one, detailing their growing up years and the nurturing relationship between mom and daughter. Shirley enjoyed a career in medical administration (Rockford Memorial Hospital in Illinois, and Thomas Davis Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona). She and Gary owned and operated two pharmacies over the years, one in Crestline, California, and one in Ottumwa, Iowa. Shirley's most recent adventure was as a real estate associate of Bridge City Realty of Ottumwa, Iowa which she enjoyed immensely. She loved working with her brother Jim, the broker, and her two sisters Donna and Joan. She was the oldest of six children and is survived by her parents, Merle Arthur and Mary Faye Harter Clingman. She grew up with five siblings in Hedrick, Iowa: Lynn and Jim Clingman (Judy), Donna Webb, Joan Jacobs, all of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Jean Mote (Eric) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Allen Jones (Luanne) of Batavia, Iowa. She is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Helen Jones Ball and her husband, Vern of Bloomfield, Iowa and her father and mother-in-law, Ralph E. and Floy L. Jones of Hedrick, Iowa. Also surviving are her immediate family: Gary Jones, husband of 52 years, of Tucson, AZ and three daughters, Kelli and Grant Gardner (grandchildren, Caitlyn, Miranda Raye and Gabriel) of Chandler, AZ; Amy and Gary Grizzle (grandchildren, Jake and Kelsey Raye) of Tucson, AZ and Whitney and Doug Messerschmitt (grandchildren, Shelby Raye and Darby) of Winterset, IA. Shirley fought a courageous battle with cancer and was an inspiration to all who loved her. To aid Shirley in the battle, friends and family across the nation formed TEAM SJ sending constant prayers, notes, and encouragement. Our family wishes to thank TEAM SJ for helping us through this journey. Shirley always had good advice, good humor, and encouraging words for everyone. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers please honor Shirley by remembering her favorite organization: Arizona Baptist Children & Family Services, 1779 N. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ. 85712. Arrangements entrusted to EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY AND CEMETERY.
