Umami, the alluring and almost impossible to describe vixen of the spice world, is now available in a sauce offered for sale at a Tucson golf resort.

Omni Tucson National Resort on the northwest side has bottled Umami and is serving it at its Fiesta Café and Legends Bar & Grill. You also can grab a 10-ounce bottle to go for $9.95 at the restaurants.

The sauce was crafted by a team of Omni chefs in collaboration with Peter Mollett of Red Kitchen Foods. It's being used at Omni's Tucson resort and Omni Fort Worth Hotel in Texas. The chefs say it's perfect for everything from scrambled eggs to burgers.

Umami is often described as the fifth taste after sweet, sour, bitter and salty - which is why it's so hard to describe exactly what it tastes like. We snagged a bottle to sample and we found the sauce to be tangy and savory like worcestershire sauce, with sweet notes chased by a slightly spicy bite at the end.

Ingredients in Omni's umami sauce include vinegar, molasses, tomato puree, juice and concentrate, chili powder extract, tamarind concentrate and coffee. The sauce is part of Omni corporate's efforts to offer all-natural, gluten-free products.

Omni Tucson is at 2727 W. Club Drive, off West Cortaro Farms Road.
