A love of peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches has one Vail family in the running for a $15,000 vacation, but they need your votes to seal the deal.
Theresa Allen and her family are among 10 finalists in Smucker's Uncrustables Unstoppable Family Photo Contest. The Allen family's photo was selected among hundreds of entries of families posing with Uncrustables, the pre-made PB&J sandwiches.
In the photo, taken at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Allen, her 9-year-old son Pierce, 7-year-old son Beckett, 21-month old daughter Stella and husband Kyle are snacking on the sandwiches in front of a jet. Her oldest son, 14-year-old Tristen, took the photo.
Allen, a staff sergeant in the Air Force, recently returned from a five-month deployment in southeast Asia where she fell in love with the sandwiches that were standard issue in the meal boxes given to military personnel.
"I really learned to love them as an adult because that's what they feed you when you're on the go in the military," she said.
The Allen family, which has been stationed at D-M for two years, has done its fair share of traveling. Both Allen and her husband, Kyle, a senior airman who left the service in November, have served tours in Iraq, and the family has lived in England and Japan and gone on many vacations.
Winning the contest would help them take one last trip to Allen's home state of Michigan before the family crosses the pond to live in England in April to fulfill Allen's most recent orders.
"I really am excited about the opportunity to go home," she said. "I'd love to spend a week or two weeks at home with my family."
Online voting for the contest continues until March 6. Visit uncrustables.com to vote. Voters also have the chance to win a free box of the treats.
