Twenty talented youngsters with penchants for poetry will compete Saturday in the 2013 Tucson Youth Poetry Slam All-City Championship at the University of Arizona Poetry Center, 1508 E. Helen St.

Students 18-and-younger from all over Tucson will face off with spirited recitations of original works.

Those works will then be judged by audience members.

The event is free and will feature a reading from performance poet Carlos Contreras, a member of Albuquerque's winning 2005 National Poetry Slam team.

Saturday's slam starts at 1 p.m. Visit tucsonyouthpoetryslam.org for more information.
