• What: National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month (National Feral Cat Day is Saturday). Find your next best friend at one of Tucson's shelters and rescue groups.

• What: Cocktails for Canines. Includes music and art in addition to dinner. Part of proceeds benefit Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

• What: Seminar on the plight of feral cats in our community and what you can do to help sponsored by Hope Animal Shelter.

• What: Pawsitively Cats hosts yard sale to benefit effort to build a shelter, and help the Casa de los Gatos cats.

• What: Green Valley Country Fair and Parade. The Animal League of Green Valley will have a booth, along with adoptable animals in the parade. Dogs welcome in Halloween activities on Oct. 31.

• When: Fair is 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Oct. 29-31. Parade is 10 a.m. Oct. 30.

• Where: Green Valley Village, at the Esperanza Boulevard exit off Interstate 19.

• What: Howl-O-Ween. Fundraiser to benefit the Hope Animal Shelter includes a dog costume contest, vendors and raffle prizes.

• What: Home for the Holidays. Sponsor an animal at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. The animal will have a discounted adoption fee.

• When: Nov. 1-Jan. 2.

• Cost: $100 (or $75 when you sponsor two or more).

• What: Sister Seraphim Tribute Luncheon. The Hermitage Cat Shelter's tribute to founder who established Arizona's first no-kill, no-cage cat sanctuary.

• What: Seventh Annual Quail Creek 5K Run and 2K dog walk. Half the proceeds benefit the Animal League of Green Valley. Adoptable dogs will walk.

• When: 9 a.m. Feb. 26.

• Where: Quail Creek Madera Clubhouse, 2055 E. Quail Crossing Blvd. Green Valley.

• Register: Starting Nov 1. through active.com.

• Cost: $20 advance; $25. Also, $10 to walk adoptable dog in 2K.

• What: The 10th Annual Arizona Animal Fair. Presented by Saving Animals From Euthanasia, this fair is the largest of its type in the Southwest, with more than 130 exhibitors, live music, educational demos, more than 30 rescue groups, two food courts, and more. About 10,000 people are expected to attend. Well-behaved pets welcome.
