You'll soon be able to wash down your Joel's Jolt or Stan's Stack sandwich with cold beer or a glass of wine at Beyond Bread's Campbell location.

The local sandwich chain is in the process of obtaining a liquor license for its restaurant at 3026 N. Campbell Ave.

Owner Shelby Collier, who started Beyond Bread in 1998 with his wife, Randie, said the decision to apply for a license was made to help increase business during dinner hours.

The Campbell location closes at 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 6 p.m. on Sundays.

"It is one more reason to come in," Shelby said. "We have plenty of open tables in the evening. We are hoping to provide a more inviting dining experience."

As this is the closest Beyond Bread location to the University of Arizona, Collier also hopes the move will bring additional interest from the pre-game football and basketball crowds.

"People like to have an adult beverage before a game," he said.

The restaurant will serve different types of beer and wine, with an emphasis on local craft beers.

"I'm a beer guy," Collier said. "I take my growler to Barrio (Brewing) and get it filled on a regular basis."

Collier said, if successful, the chain will consider offering alcoholic beverages in its other two locations at 421 W. Ina Road and 6260 E. Speedway.

"This is a big endeavor," he said. "It is not like adding a new sandwich to the menu. There is a lot of work and cost associated with it."

Collier hopes to be up and running with beer and wine service on Campbell Avenue by September.
