Moving up

Dr. Lesta Whalen has joined the University of Arizona faculty as assistant professor, section of critical care.

As a pediatric intensivist, Whalen will care for critically ill children in the pediatric intensive care units at the University of Arizona Medical Center- Diamond Children’s and Tucson Medical Center.

Whalen earned her medical degree from Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota. She went on to complete her residency in pediatrics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

She focuses on improving quality of patient care and communication in pediatrics and pediatric critical care. She has specific interests in the care of pediatric patients with cardiac defects.

Whalen is board-certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in pediatric critical care.
