Many of us have kids on spring break this week. Here are some free and cheap things to do with them while they're out of school.

Take a day trip up to Mount Lemmon. Pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Visit the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum. We haven't gone here yet, but I think my son would love it. If your kids are into trains, they'll love it. The museum is located at 414 N. Toole Ave. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Sabino Canyon is beautiful this time of year and it only costs $5 to park.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 265 S. Church Ave., is $8 for adults, but kids under 17 are free.

Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium at the University of Arizona is awesome. It's located at 1601 E. University Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. They're reopen from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is $7 for adults; $5 for kids ages 4 to 15; Free for kids under 4. Planetarium laser shows are $5 for all ages, and the observatory is free.

Agua Caliente Park, located at 12325 E. Roger Road, is a beautiful park with ponds, wildlife and trails. It's free to go. Pack a picnic and bring a ball.

Reid Park has playgrounds, duck ponds, bbq grills and lots of grass to run around on.  You can also purchase tickets to ride the train around the pond for $2. Get them at the ticket counter at the zoo.

The library has tons of free activities, plus you can check out books and dvds for free. Go to for a schedule.

Walk around downtown. My son loves doing this.  You don't even need to spend money.

Visit parks in other neighborhoods.

Don't feel like going anywhere? Play hide and seek at home. Find something to paint.  Have an old book case or end table? Let the kids paint it and embellish it with stickers, pictures, etc.
