To celebrate the milestone of more shelter space, Pima Animal Care Center, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, is offering free pet adoptions through Sunday.
PACC put up a tent to help address overcrowding in the shelter. The tent, which serves as a temporary solution, is complete with electricity, heating and cooling and custom kennels that will be used in a more permanent facility in the future.
At 10 a.m. Friday, a parade of pets will walk to their new accommodations. The first 35 of 100 kennels will be filled. "Tent-warming" gifts of canned dog food or leashes are appreciated.
Pima Animal Care Center is open from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.
PACC is one of fifty shelters across the country participating in a challenge to adopt out more pets this summer, with a goal of adopting, rescuing and returning to their owners 5,000 pets from June through August.
