The Great Pumpkin Race, a fun, inexpensive 5k

I like to run. I love the running community. I especially love running in the races, even if I'm at the back of the pack.

But, entering races can be expensive. Especially the themed events. I've always had a rule to not spend more than $20 for a 5k. That's why I love finding gems like the Great Pumpkin Race, put on by Southern Arizona Roadrunners. It's only $15 to register if you're not a member; $12 if you are. The race benefits the University of Arizona Medical Center Departments of Surgery and Neurology.

It's a cross country style 5k that runs through the Buckelew family farm, including portions of the corn maze. Participants get free entry into the farm and there are great family activities like pumpkin carving and kids' face painting. They even have a free one mile run for kids 11 and under.

I've run this race, and I really enjoyed it. It's a great event for runners of all abilities.
