The man convicted of murdering a seven-year-old girl was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.

Kyle Alegria was found guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor under the age of 15 for the 2009 killing of Rhia Almeida.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Deborah Bernini sentenced Alegria to spend his natural life in prison for the murder charge, which a jury found him guilty of in November.

Alegria, 23, also was given 35 years to life in prison for the sexual contact with a minor charge and 17 years for kidnapping.
