A Tucson man accused of killing a 17-year-old student in a fatal drug rip took the stand today in his trial in Pima County Superior Court.

Keanu Deano Castaneda testified Tuesday morning about the drug-deal-turned shooting that left Carlos Sandoval dead on Dec. 31, 2011.

Castaneda said he went to the drug deal to act as back up for Jamonte Olague, who had arranged to buy a pound of hydroponic marijuana from Sandoval.

Once at the house where the deal was set to go down, Castaneda said Olague pulled a BB gun and attempted to snatch the drugs. Intervening, Castaneda said he struggled with Sandoval when the gun he brought to the deal went off two times.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
