Juan Carlos Gil was found guilty on Wednesday of first-degree murder for the 2011 shooting death of Francisco Antonio Gastelo.
Gil and another unidentified man gunned down Gastelo in a parking lot near the University of Arizona campus. Gastelo’s car was later found at a south side apartment. Eyewitnesses said they saw Gil there removing items from the car.
The prosecutor argued throughout the trial that all the evidence pointed to Gil, from eyewitness accounts, his DNA found on the murder weapon to his efforts to hide evidence following the killing.
