A man who prosecutors said was the ringleader of a multi-million dollar copper-theft scheme was sentenced to prison on Wednesday.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Javier Chon-Lopez sentenced Rene Joe Arbizo to 2 ½ years in prison and seven years probation for his role in the thefts.

Arbizo was one of 18 people indicted in 2013 in connection with the thefts.
