Opening arguments are scheduled to start later today in the third trial of man accused of first-degree murder in the 2001 killing of a high school student.

Max LaMadrid has twice stood trial for the killing of Palo Verde High School student Tanee Natividad. Both previous trials ended in mistrials when juries were unable to reach unanimous verdicts.

LaMadrid fled to Mexico following the incident and was extradited to the U.S. in 2010.
