Judge Jan Kearney and Judge Terry Chandler are retiring from the bench and the hunt is on for their replacements.

According to an email that just landed in my inbox, 18 people are in the running for the two open spots.

For those of you who have been paying attention for the past couple of years, the names will be familiar ones. Afterall, most have applied to replace the many, many judges who have retired recently.

They are:

Lisa I. Abrams; Sean E. Brearcliffe; Michael J. Butler; Dean C. Christoffel; Darlene Edminson-O’Brien; Brenden J. Griffin; Verne S. Hill; Peter W. Hochuli; James W. Kaucher; Philip M. Kimble; D. Douglas Metcalf; Wendy A. Million; Nanette C. A. Morrow; Bradley K. Roach; Christopher L. Straub; Joan L. Wagener; Angela W. Woolridge; and Wayne E. Yehling.

The Pima County Commission on Trial Court Appointments will hear public comments on the candidates on March 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the Tucson Police Department, 1310 W. Miracle Mile.

Citizens may address the Commission at that meeting or send written comments to 1501 W. Washington, Suite 221, Phoenix, AZ, 85007 or to jnc@courts.az.gov.  Written comments must arrive by March 14 to be considered. Anonymous comments cannot be considered.

On March 18, the Commission will choose which applicants will be interviewed on April 22.

After the interviews, the Commission will recommend at least three nominees  to Gov. Jan Brewer, who will appoint the new judges.
