A Tucson teen was selected to attend a space camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

Canyon del Oro High School student Michael Yuhas was the only teen chosen from Tucson to participate in the 2014 Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

The program, which began Feb. 21, will wrap up on March 7. Yuhas is one of 304 students from 38 countries and 33 U.S. states attending.

The academy is designed to inspire the next generation of students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Participants also engage in interactive activities and workshops created to enhance their leadership fundamentals, including:

  • Simulating jet-fighter pilot training
  • Scenario-based space missions
  • Designing, building and testing their own rockets
  • Meet with top scientists, engineers, and former astronauts
