A $480,000 grant will be used to teach parents about family literacy and advocacy for their children in education and health services.

The Helios Education Foundation awarded the grant to Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. The grant will support a two-year program for more than 2,000 parents in Pima, Coconino, Maricopa and Yuma counties.

Parents will be trained in the Abriendo Puertas curriculum, a leadership program designed by and for Latino parents with children ages 0 to 5.

“Parents understand that education is the foundation for a brighter future, but they may lack the necessary skills that can help them navigate through the complexities of the educational and healthcare systems,” said Edmundo Hidalgo, President and CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa. "The right tools will enable parents to be more informed and better support their child’s life success.”
