The Tucson community is invited to celebrate the opening of new soccer fields and a walking path at Doolen Middle School Saturday.

The project is a joint-use facility between TUSD, City of Tucson Parks and Recreation and the Fort Lowell Soccer Club consisting of two new soccer fields and a lighted walking path, according to a Tucson Unified School District news release.

The celebration, which is from 9 a.m. to noon, at Doolen, 2400 N. Country Club Road, includes a dedication ceremony at 9:30.

Following the dedication ceremony there will be a walk/run around the new path and field day activities in which children may participate. Food will be available for purchase.

The project was funded by TUSD through $1.1 million in bond dollars. Through separate agreements, the Fort Lowell Soccer Club, with support from the soccer community, will provide $280,000 to fund the lighting for the fields at a future date.
