The White House has honored a Sunnyside Unified School District teacher for her use of technology in the classroom.

Misa Gonzales was one of 10 people who were named a "Champion of Change," as part of President Barack Obama's ConnectED Initiative, which calls for increased internet connectivity in schools, according to a White House news release.

The purpose of the "Champions of Change" program is to highlight the efforts of those who are working to improve access to technology in their classrooms, schools and communities.

Gonzales is a freshman English teacher at Desert View High School who uses GoogleApps and other cloud resources to help students keep track of homework and other class assignments.
