This month the University of Arizona began an $80 million renovation of McKale, inspired by ancient Rome's famous gladiator arena, the Colloseum. The plans include the addition of a mock sea battle pool, lion pens, a cloister for vestial virgin cheerleaders, a piazza dedicated to Emperor Miller, and a collonade topped with marble statues honoring Wildcat divinities, including the Oracle of Lute and the Temple of Snowden. The new venue for Wildcat basketball, dubbed McColloseum, will reopen in the fall with a chariot race exhibition.
