Hundreds are expected to spruce up Tucson parks this weekend.

About 400 volunteers will remove trash and debris from 12 westside parks and along the Santa Cruz River on Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Planned by members of the Tucson Arizona West Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the event would be the largest single-day cleanup effort so far this year in the city.

In addition to church members, officials from Pima County, Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Tucson Parks and Recreation, and the Ward 1 council office also helped set up the event.

“I'm very grateful Ward 1 and Santa Cruz River parks were selected,” said councilwoman Regina Romero. “This is a great example of how volunteers can impact our community in a positive way.”

After the park cleanup, volunteers will gather at Christopher Columbus Park for a barbeque.
