Tucson took another step forward in bolstering its image as an immigrant-welcoming city.

The city announced the launch of its online Immigrant Resource Center this week.

The center acts as a one-stop portal for immigrants of all backgrounds to get in touch with various government and nonprofit services available in the area.

The portal includes links to housing programs, childcare, educational opportunities, government agencies, health and legal services, and recreation activities.

Last August, the mayor and council established Tucson as an Immigrant Welcoming City.

They followed-up that designation with action by creating an Immigrant Task Force in May. The task force’s first priority was creating the web portal.

Councilwoman Regina Romero said the portal is a testament to the city’s dedication to diversity.

“Recognizing Tucson as an Immigrant Welcoming City demonstrates the pledge by city leaders to establish a city that values the contributions of all residents, regardless of background,” Romero said in a press release. “Our city’s identity is built upon its promise of equality, esteem for diversity, and commitment to innovation. Tucson shares influences of Spanish, Mexican, European, and indigenous cultures which come together to make our city unique.”
