Gloria Giffords, the mother of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, will speak on Thursday at the 15th annual Liberty Place Festival of Trees in Montana, a Bozeman television station is reporting.
Organizers told Station KBZK that Gloria Giffords is expected to offer a message of hope and encouragement.
The Festival of Trees annual event is a major fundraiser for Liberty Place, Inc. located in Whitehall, Montana. Liberty Place provides care and rehabilitation opportunities for survivors of acquired brain injuries.
Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords was shot through the left side of her brain nearly two years ago and continues to recover. She resigned her seat in Congress in January to focus on her rehabilitation and is living in Tucson now with her husband and stepdaughter.
The past four weeks have been difficult for the Giffords family.
Spencer Giffords - Gabby's father and Gloria's husband - died unexpectedly last month. Last week, the man who shot Gabby and 18 others on Jan. 8, 2011 was sentenced to life in prison.
