The director of exercise science research at Tucson’s Canyon Ranch resort is scheduled to give a free talk at the University of Arizona on Wednesday.

Michael Hewitt is expected to discuss a practical and reasonable approach to determine healthy weight ranges at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the DuVal Auditorium at the University of Arizona Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.

The 90-minute talk is titled “The Healthy Weight Philosophy.” The event is open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided.

Hewitt’s talk will cover the importance of lean body mass, as well as reveal the facts, fads and fictions surrounding the weight- loss industry. He’ll also talk about weight as it relates to joint disease, cardiorespiratory disease, diabetes, sleep apnea and more.

A clinical specialist in exercise and aging, cardiometabolic physiology and exercise for bone health, Hewitt has been at Canyon Ranch for 20 years.

The lecture is part of the Living Healthy With Arthritis series of monthly talks presented by the UA Arthritis Center.
