The Tucson-based Jr. El Tour Youth Cycling Program is looking for a 2013 team of girls and boys ages 10 to 13 who are interested in cycling and improving their health.

Priority will be given to children who are in need, overweight, underactive, or at risk for health problems.

Kids learn cycling techniques, safety, sports nutrition, and exercise in a fun and supportive environment.  Training sessions are 3 times per week for the first 12 weeks, culminating in a 40-mile ride in the El Tour de Tucson bicycle event in November.  All equipment is provided, including bikes, which the children may earn in the three-month follow-up program.

The Jr. El Tour is a non-profit program of Perimeter Bicycling that's supported by grants and donations, and participation is free for those accepted into the program.

Apply before July 18 online at www.jreltour.org/parents-info or call 490-5979. Classes are scheduled to begin Aug. 22.
