Anyone resolving to be more fit in 2014 can get off to a good start at the Pima Animal Care Center on New Year’s Day.

The center, at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, is hosting a dog walk and bed build event at 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday followed by free adoptions from noon to 3 p.m. (A $15 standard licensing fee will apply).

The community has donated more than 60 elevated beds to keep the dogs comfortable when they move into a new tent facility that’s being constructed to handle overcrowding. The beds came unassembled, so center officials need help putting them together.

Please RSVP to and indicate which activity – or both – you’d like to take part in.

Adoption fees for the rest of January will be $30, with pets free if they are seniors or are in the shelter longer than two weeks.
