Dr. Michael R. Waldrum, chief executive officer of the University of Arizona Health Network told employees in a memo sent last night that the organization's senior leaders are "actively exploring" new strategies.
One of those strategies could be an alignment with Phoenix-based Banner Health, which is one of the country's largest health entities.
"Our exploration has led us into discussions about collaboration with many organizations, including Banner Health," Waldrum writes.
The Star published a story about a possible alignment between Banner and the UA Health Network in today's paper.
Waldrum, who has been CEO since January 2013, stresses in his memo that while there are discussions, there's no current agreement between the two non-profits.
The UA Health Network is the seventh largest employer in Southern Arizona and the region's largest health entity.
