Volunteer dog walkers and cat cuddlers are needed for a special two-hour Thanksgiving morning event at the Pima County Animal Care Center.

On a day when the county shelter does not have regular staff working, volunteers can give a dog some social time and a walk around Silverbell Lake that they would not otherwise get.

The walk is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday Nov. 28. Please RSVP to jackdogneuman@gmail.com

Adoption drives will be held on Thanksgiving and Black Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and new pet parents will be allowed to name their own adoption fee.

The shelter is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road near Sweetwater. Pima Animal Care accepts all animals, regardless of their condition, and they take in a staggering 25,000 animals a year.

For comparison's sake imagine every seat filled at McKale Center at the University of Arizona — its capacity is just under 15,000.

If you can't make it out on Thanksgiving, remember to spay and neuter your animals and if you are looking for a new pet, adopt don't shop.
