Traffic Citations Lead List of Offenses On Record
Five hundred and nine traffic citations were made during June by city police officers, according to a report yesterday by C.A. Wollard, chief of police. Speeding led the major offenses with 49 citations being made while 24 people were cited for failing to make boulevard stops. Three hundred seventy-four unlawful parking tickets were given out. Two persons were arrested on drunk and driving charges and eight for reckless driving.
One hundred and sixty-six persons were fined, 231 suspended and two discharged. Bench warrants were issued and returned on 53 persons. There were three juvenile cases and 54 cases still pending.
The official police department reports show 222 arrests during the month with 161 people being sentenced. Fines collected totaled $2,018.25. Officers recovered stolen property valued at $9,219.75.
Arrests for drunkenness led with a total of 98. Disturbing the peace charges places second with 26. Eleven females and 16 males were arrested for vagrancy. There were five arrests for grand larceny and six for petty larceny. Nine people were arrested for simple assault charges.
Money paid out for meals to prisoners totaled $354.19 during the month.
Twenty-two people received suspended sentences, eight were discharged, ten turned over to Pima county, 17 turned over to he juvenile department and 4 to the U.S. Marshal.
