The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is holding a free electronics waste recycling event in Marana.

The event goes from 8 a.m. to noon April 27 in the parking lot of Walmart, 8280 N. Cortaro Road. Unwanted TVs, computer equipment, batteries, cell phones and accessories and other home electronics will be accepted.

“We’re excited because this is our first e-waste collection event in Marana and we are also expecting residents of Oro Valley, Rillito and Cortaro to participate,”  ADEQ director Henry Darwin said in a news release. “This is a great opportunity for people in the area north of Tucson to dispose of all the unwanted electronics they have collected over the years while at the same time ensuring that this potentially toxic stream of waste is disposed of responsibly and does not take up valuable landfill space.”

Those who submit items to be recycled can receive a certificate of disposal. E-Waste Harvesters will erase hard drives and recycle materials in line with state and federal standards.

ADEQ has sponsored 85 such events since 2009 and collected nearly 2.1 million pounds of electronics for recycling.
