Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815 held the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Americanism Essay Contest with the theme “What Veterans Day Means to Me.” Of the 278 Coronado Middle School students who participated, three were chosen from each grade division.

Melinda Rodriguez, Olivia Callaghan and Lauren Stevenson were winners in the fifth and sixth grade division. Joey Ferrer, Savanna Taft and Karyssa Quintana were were the seventh and eighth grade division winners. Certificates and medals will be awarded to these students at a Lodge Youth Luncheon on May 4.

Winners will move on to district, state and national competitions.
