Tucsonan Shane Peltonen is attempting to run the length of the 800-mile Arizona Trail, which stretches from Mexico to Utah.

He began the run May 4, running about 40 miles a day. He expects to complete the trek on about May 22.

“I’m not out to set any records or win any awards,” he said in a news release. “This is just something I really want to do.”

Peltonen is a former professional cyclist who made the transition to running a few years ago. He's carrying a backpack that weights 10 pounds and includes a 100-ounce water container, inflatable sleeping bag, clothing, food and supplies.
