Marana Middle School teacher Sarah Ross is one of 50 educators selected for a prestigious Yale award.

Ross will attend the June 6-9 Symposium on Music in Schools in New Haven, Conn. at the Yale School of Music, where she will receive the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award. She and the other winners were chosen from a pool of nearly 300 nominees. She is the only winner from Arizona.

At the symposium, she'll discuss musical education issues and take part in workshops. The theme is "The Role of Music in School Reform."

Ross has been with the school, where she is choir director, since 2007. She also runs the school talent show and serves as vocal director and pianist in the annual spring musical.

She serves as the South-Central Regional Choir Chair for the Arizona Music Educators Association.
