For the second straight year, the e.Republic Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities Program has hailed Marana's digital savvy.

The town ranked fourth among towns with a population of fewer than 75,000, following Palo Alto, Calif.; Fayetteville, Ark. and Carson City, Nev. Marana topped the survey in 2012.

“The Town of Marana believes in using technology to improve the lines of communication with our constituents,” said town manager Gilbert Davidson, via a news release. “The best way we can achieve transparency in government is by making it easier to interact with our residents and business owners.”

The town plans to improve its digital footprint by rolling out a redesigned website and introduce an online survey tool. The town will also start using Instagram.

The Center for Digital Government, which is in its 13th year, is a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. The survey judged municipalities based on their use of technology in various aspects of government.
