The Marana Chamber of Commerce is helping Estes Elementary School build a track with a benefit exercise event.

Proceeds from the Marana 10K and 5K Run/Walk on March 2 at Coyote Trail Elementary School, at 8000 N. Silverbell Road, will go toward the project at Estes. Registration opens at 2:30 p.m. the day of the race.

"Our goal is ensure that young children have the opportunity to have outdoor activities available to them and to give younger children the outdoor activities that they need to strive off the fastest growing epidemic in our children today, diabetes," organizers say on its website.

Kids under age 5 can participate for free. Registration ranges from $5 to $25, depending on the age of the participant and the length of the race.
