The newest member of the Oro Valley Police Department is 3 years old and not human.

He's Max, a German Shepherd certified service dog, imported from the Netherlands and purchased from Alderhorst K-9 International in Jurupa, Calif.

Max has started narcotics detection training and will also be trained in search, apprehension and protection.

Officer Roger Reynolds, Max's handler, expects he and the dog to be certified as a team in as soon as four weeks.
