KaBOOM!, a nonprofit that helps communities build playgrounds, gave Oro Valley a "Playful City USA" designation for the third straight year.

The distinction recognizes the town's efforts in supporting policies that create opportunities for children to play.

“This designation is yet another acknowledgement of Oro Valley’s commitment to youth, and it’s one of the many reasons Bloomberg Businessweek recently named us the Best Place to Raise Kids in Arizona, ” said Kristy Diaz-Trahan, director of Parks and Recreation, in a news release. “I’d like to thank Mayor Hiremath, members of Town Council, and our residents for recognizing the value of safe, attractive and convenient places for children to play and explore.”

Oro Valley, which KaBOOM! praised for its research on partnering with homeowners associations to create public play spaces, was one of 217 municipalities to receive the designation.
