Covered parking with solar panel roofing is coming to the Northwest YMCA-Pima County Community Center, 7770 N. Shannon Road.

Solon Corporation, Pima County and Pima Community College are partnering to provide the structure, which will cover about 200 parking spots and provide 84 percent of the electricity to the building. The structure is expected to save the YMCA and its partners more than $1 million in electrical costs over the next 25 years.

There will be a groundbreaking at the county-owned facility at 10 a.m. Thursday.
