The Sonoran Desert Flyers, a group of radio-controlled aircraft enthusiasts, are taking flight in August with a community event meant to celebrate the hobby.

The group will host a demonstration and air show from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 17 at the group's field, at 660 W. Naranja Drive. Helicopters, quadracopters, gliders and other radio-controlled flyers will be on display. There is no admission charge, but donations of nonperishable food will be accepted.
