Tortolita Middle School principal Barbara Kohl is beginning the school year on an approved Family Medical Leave Act absence. Marana Unified School District has adjusted to fill in the temporary vacancy.

According to an email from district spokeswoman Tamara Crawley, associate principal Todd Ponder will "will address any issues which would normally be brought to the principal’s attention."

Another Tortolita associate principal, Brian Paradis, will assist Ponder. Also, Lynne Prouty, who retired as principal at MCAT High School, will join the school as a third administrator on a temporary basis while Kohl is on leave. Crawley said MUSD's leadership team will also provide additional support.

Tortolita, at 4101 W. Hardy Road, starts it school year Monday along with the other MUSD schools.
